LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The final two spots in the 2018 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship are up for grab this upcoming week as the University of Dallas secured their spot over the weekend.
The University of Dallas went 2-0 on the weekend to keep themselves in the hunt for a piece of the regular season championship. Schreiner University locked up at least a share of the title, but had their first losing weekend in conference action and couldn't secure sole posession of the trophy. The Mountaineers couldn't take down Colorado College on Friday night, and fell short against Dallas Sunday.
Schreiner still remains atop the standings with a 9-3 record in conference action and two games left to play. Dallas sits right behind at 8-5 with only one game left.
Trinity University went 1-1 over the weekend, defeating Colorado College but falling to Dallas. The Tigers are 7-5 and are one of the four teams that have already secured their bids in the tournament. They are joined by Centenary College at 7-6. The Gents lost both games over the weekend.
Colorado College, Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University will make up the final two spots in the tournament, with a lot on the line this week. Both SU and TLU rebounded from an 0-2 weekend to sweep Austin College and TLU at home.
Texas Lutheran's Nathan Josephs grabbed a steal in the final seconds before hitting a near buzzer-beater to defeat Centenary and keep the Bulldogs in the tournament race.
