SAN ANTONIO, Texas
- Trinity golfer Redmond Lyons qualified for the U.S. Amateur with his third place finish at the U.S. Amateur Qualifying - DFW.

Lyons competed Tuesday at the U.S. Amateur Qualifying event hosted by the Texas Golf Association (TGA) at The Lakes at Castle Hills. After the round, Lyons came in with a four-under par score of 68 to clinch the third qualifying spot for this event. He faced tough competition on the 68-man field and was able to beat out many NCAA Division I golfers for the top spot.

His finish at this TGA event allows him to compete in the U.S. Amateur hosted by the United States Golf Association (USGA). Lyons is the first Tiger golfer to qualify for the U.S. Amateur and joins Trinity Hall of Famers Frank Connor and Joe Jimenez in qualifying for a USGA championship. He is believed to be the first men's golfer in SCAC history to earn a slot in the U.S. Amateur.

This year's tournament will be held August 14 - 20 at the prestigious Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.

The U.S. Amateur is the oldest championship hosted by the USGA and has seen its fair share of golfs' greatest players. Bob Jones, Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods are just a few golfers who have claimed a U.S. Amateur title over the years, and now Lyons has the opportunity to compete for the chance to add his name to the list of these great champions.
