SCAC Women's Track & Field Recap - Week Five

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's track and field teams competed last week.

Austin College traveled to the Oklahoma Baptist University Invite last week, and their performance was highlighted by Alex Quinn, who had a strong showing in the 5000-meter race, placing 20th with a time of 20:00.40, just four seconds shy of matching her personal record. Eden Llamas finished 30th in the same event, crossing the finish line with a time of 21:36.41.

Colorado College competed at the Spank Blasing Meet in Pueblo, Colo., and their performance was highlighted by a record-setting 4x100-meter relay team. The foursome of McKenna Schnack, Samantha Gilbert, Asmeda Spalding and Camille Weaver finished the event with a time of 50.30 seconds, coming in .06 seconds ahead of the previous record set in 1998.

In addition to anchoring the school-record relay, Weaver recorded three individual top-ten results on Saturday. She finished third in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump and 100-meter hurdles race. Meanwhile, Gilbert finished sixth in the 200-meter dash and seventh in the 100, while Spalding posted a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Schnack and Spalding joined Ayla Loper an Liza Huschle on the 4x400 relay team that placed fifth, and Loper finished 10th in the high jump.

The University of Dallas competed at the Dan Veach Invitational hosted by Southern Arkansas University. The team was led by Diana Hassink, who grabbed second place in the shot put (11.67m) and produced her best marks this spring in the discus throw (27.30m) and hammer throw (35.01m). Jules Oliveti threw the furthest distance on the team in the discus with a mark of 30.39m. Emma Kate Callahan won the 1500 with a 5:12.51 result, earning the first individual win for UD since the USCAA meet in 2016.

Southwestern University, Texas Lutheran University and Trinity University all competed in San Antonio at the Trinity Invite.

For the Pirates, the team was excellent in throws on the afternoon as Hannah Bruce threw a 42.02m in the hammer, setting a school record and finishing third among D3 student-athletes. Bruce's discus record would be broken by Julia Glandt as she threw a 36.24m in the event. Erin Toro broke her own school record in the shot put, placing eighth with a throw of 11.35m.

On the track, Sofia Garcia placed seventh in the 5000m with a time of 20:27.31 while Trinh Ha was eighth with a time of 20:28.87. Mallory Harkins was seventh in the 400m with a time of 1:04.45.

Texas Lutheran University posted four top finishes at the meet, including Cortnee Priour's mark of 5.74m in the long jump that moved into the top three in Division III. Ashley Rynard collected top honors in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:50.50, while Priour joined Ashley Myers, Tanya Prazelini and Amber Lancaster to lead the Bulldogs to a win in the 4x100 meter relay. Ashlee Hooks rounded out the team's top finishers with a win in the high jump (1.57m).

The team also posted multiple top-five finishes including Myers in the 100m (12.48), Rynard and Kylee Garcia in the 400m with time of 59.02 and 1:01.02, respectively, Sandra Henderson in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.89 seconds and Felicia Ortiz in the 400 hurdles (1:11.07). Priour also took second in the triple jump with a mark of 10.82 meters and Hannah Kipp finished second in the discus with a throw of 41.31 meters.

Trinity University fared well at the meet, and saw one record fall. Stella Affognon broke a 10-year-old record in the discus with her mark of 39.89 meters on Saturday. Jocelyn Stokes was the previous record-holder with a throw of 38.98 meters in 2008. Affognon was fifth in the discus and ninth in the shot put.

Abigail Schneebeck also picked up a first place victory and season best performance in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.31 seconds, while Androniki Defteraios was eighth among collegiate runners in the 100 hurdles. Trinity had two other runners in the top 10 of the hurdles event, as Mia Loseff and Rylie Edwards were fourth and fifth, respectively. Edwards was also second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:09.05 and Loseff was third among college competitors with a mark of 3.25 meters in the pole vault.

Britney Sullivan won the triple jump with her Trinity season-best mark of 11.71 meters, and she also earned a third-place finish in the long jump.
