SCAC Announces 2018 Men's Tennis All-Tournament Team

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2018 SCAC Men's Tennis all-Tournament team this morning. Complete Release

Trinity University's Wilson Lambeth earned all-tourney honors for the third consecutive year for his efforts both as a singles and doubles player. He was 2-0 at No. 3 singles at this year's championships and teamed with Jordan Pitts to go 3-0 at No. 1 doubles. He was all-tourney at No. 2 singles in 2017 and No. 3 singles in 2016 and had been part of the No. 1 doubles team in 2017 and No. 3 doubles in 2016. Pitts was all-tourney at No. 2 singles (1-0) – the second consecutive year he as received all-tournament singles honors.

The only other repeat all-tournament honoree was Andrew Albright of Schreiner. Albright teamed with Luis Cabreja to go 2-0 at No. 1 doubles after earning all-tourney honors at No. 3 doubles in 2017.

The 14th-ranked Trinity men's tennis team took home its ninth consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship with a 5-0 victory over Southwestern University this past Sunday in Colorado Springs, Colo., on the campus of the United States Air Force Academy.

With the victory, the Tigers also secured an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.

Trinity not only earned its ninth straight SCAC Championships, but this marks the program's 23rd overall SCAC men's tennis crown - the most championships by any one program in league history.

Trinity began the match with a solid sweep in doubles. First-years Jace Akagi-Okuma and Wilson Hamilton earned their 18th doubles victory of the season with a strong 8-1 win at line two. Wilson Lambeth and Jordan Pitts were the next match off the court with an 8-2 win at line one, and Tilden Oliver and Austin Crist were able to hold on for a 9-7 victory at line three to give the Tigers all three doubles points. 

Akagi-Okuma continued his great tournament in singles competition, picking up a quick 6-1, 6-3 win at line four to expand his win streak to 14. Pitts was then able to clinch the match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at line two to give the Tigers a solid 5-0 win over the Pirates.

*Any player (or doubles team) that goes through the conference tournament undefeated is named to the all-tournament team automatically. If no one player or team goes undefeated using the above criteria, then the next best record at that position will be named to the all-tournament team. Coaches may also nominate a player for the all-tournament team.
