INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Caroline Kutach of Trinity University will make her way to California for the NCAA Division III Singles Championship after being selected by the national committee Wednesday.
Kutach, a junior from McGregor, Texas, will represent the SCAC at the 32-draw championship. This marks her first time competing in the NCAA Division III Singles Championship event.
Kutach was earlier elected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, while earning a slot on the All-SCAC Team for the third consecutive time. She is ranked fourth in the West Region in singles and has amassed a 14-6 record at the #1 position.\
Southwestern University's Mary Cardone was selected as the first-alternate and is the first in line if any singles player scratches from the tournament.
For the individual championships, the national committee has selected seven singles players and three doubles teams from each of the four regions. Additionally, the committee selected the remaining four singles players and four doubles team berths from a national at-large pool. The individual championships shall consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on win-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.
The team championship will take place May 21-23, and the individual championships May 24-26, both at Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California, and will be hosted by the Claremont McKenna- Harvey- Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
