Houska Hits Milestones in Loss to Trinity

Box Score Eric Houska solidified his place among the top players among in the history of Colorado College men's basketball by recording a pair of individual achievements on Sunday afternoon, but he would gladly trade those feats for a second victory against Trinity University.

Despite Houska's 15 points and game-high six assists, CC dropped a 70-65 decision to Trinity and now finds itself in a three-way battle with Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University for fifth place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings.

Colorado College, which slipped to 11-13 overall and 6-7 in the conference, can clinch a berth in the six-team conference tournament with a victory over the University of Dallas in the regular-season finale next Saturday.

Playing in his 100th game, Houska became the ninth CC player to record two or more 400-point seasons. He also is one of three players to score at least 400 points and dish out 100 or more assists in a single season, accomplishing that feat for the second year in a row.

Sophomore forward CooXooEii Black recorded his team-leading double-double of the season with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for Colorado College.

Senior forward John Hatch also finished in double-figures with 14 points and became the 17 player in CC history to reach 1,100 career points.

Houska tied the score on a layup at 51-51 with 11:49 to play, but Taylor Kim gave TU a lead they would not give up just 11 seconds later.

After falling behind by as many as five points on several occasions, Black hit a pair of free throws to trim Colorado College's deficit to three points with 28 seconds to go. However, Trinity sealed the victory by connecting on four of six free throws during the final 22 seconds.

CC led for the final time at 34-32 after senior forward Chris Martin sank a pair of free throws 1:14 into the second half, but after senior guard Matt Jones hit a three-pointer 26 seconds later and Colorado College never lead again.

Junior forward Isaiah Specks came off the bench to score a game-high 19 points for Trinity, which earned a split in the season series and improved to 13-10 overall and 7-5 in the SCAC.

Senior forward Jayden Holden sank 9 of 10 free throws and finished with 18 points.
