Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla. – The No. 19/20 Tiger women's golf team finished in a tie for 12th after the final round of the NCAA III Championships, hosted by the Mission Inn Resort & Club.
Trinity finished with a total score of 983 over the three rounds of play, tying with Illinois Wesleyan University for the 12th spot. The tournament was marred by the cancellation of yesterday's third round, due to an "unplayable hole for the entire tournament field." That turned the four-day event into a 54-hole tournament that concluded today. The Tigers produced the best finish in school history, after finishing 16th in the program's first appearance in the NCAA III Championships.
Alejandra Sanchez De la Fuente Molino finished in a tie for 19th individually and led Trinity with a total score of 236 (79-77-80). She had two birdies in today's round and just missed three straight rounds in the 70s. Just seven shots behind her teammate, Kiona Hsiu had just one birdie in her final round, yet still played the back nine at +2 to finish tied for 38th. She posted a total score of 243 (81-79-83) for the tournament.
Lucy Hansen led Trinity with three birdies in today's final round, and was just one-over-par on the back through the first six holes. She finished with a total score of 248 (86-80-82) for the tournament. Erin Flynn shot 259 (80-86-93) played the back nine at just +6 and had one birdie on the day.
Erin Farrow eagled the par-5 first hole to start the day off on the right foot for the Tigers and wound up with her best score of the tournament. Farrow finished with a score of 278 (93-95-90) overall.
Coach Speak
"I am so proud of this team," said Head Coach Shelby DeVore. "They fought hard all week long. Canceling the third round was a huge disappointment for us, but the girls persevered and did everything I hoped they would. I can't think of a better way to end the season."
