Jacob Delao Named Head Coach of UD Men's and Women's Tennis

IRVING, Texas - The nationwide search for a new men’s and women’s tennis coach has concluded.  Athletics Director Jarred Samples has announced that Jacob Delao will take the reigns of UD Tennis, and is tasked with restarting the program after having been discontinued in 2005.

“I am very excited to be a part of the University of Dallas athletics department and the Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach. It is an honor to be able to continue the historic traditions that the team experienced in the 90’s and I hope to continue and add to its legacy today in 2022,” said Delao.  “I would like to thank President Dr. Jonathan Sanford and Athletic Director Jarred Samples for providing me with the opportunity to lead this team with the goal of competing at the top of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, and NCAA Division III.”

This will be Delao’s first head coaching gig at the collegiate level, coming to UD after a successful spell as the head assistant for the Seward County Community College Saints.  In his time with the program, the Saints made it all the way to the NJCAA National Tournament, with the women taking home a program best third place finish and the men securing a first ever National Title.

Prior to his stint at Seward County, Delao was the graduate assistant at East Texas Baptist University, where he attained his Master’s Degree in Sports Leadership.  Both Tigers teams advanced to the SAC Tournament, with the women making it to the semi-finals.  He was also a four-year student-athlete at Dallas Baptist University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing.

“We are excited to add Jacob to the team,” said Samples.  “The prospect of starting a brand new program is a daunting one, but he is eager and up to the challenge.”
