Five SCAC Volleyball Players Earn AVCA All-America Recognition

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 2022 Division III All-America teams Tuesday, and five Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference players were recognized. AVCA Release

Sara Flynn and Emily Ellis of Trinity University were both named to the First Team while Colorado College’s Jenny Jenks and Isabella Lipacis along with Trinity’s Maddie Fate earned Honorable Mention recognition. All five earned First Team All-Region honors last week.

This marks the second-straight year the SCAC has placed multiple athletes on the First Team, the only conference in the country that can make that claim. Last year the league saw three athletes earn First Team accolades.

Flynn, a senior rightside from Seattle, Wash., elevated to First Team All-American after earning Honorable Mention accolades last season. A two-time All-SCAC First Team selection and 2022 SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year, Flynn leads Trinity with 297 kills and is second on the team with a .381 hitting percentage. Her hitting percentage currently ranks 19th in all of Division III.

Ellis, a senior middle blocker from Georgetown, Texas, is making her second appearance on an All-American team, earning Second Team accolades back in 2019. A two-time All-SCAC First Team selection, Ellis currently is tied for the lead on Trinity’s squad with 120 total blocks, ranks first with a blistering .410 hitting percentage and is tied for third on the team with 205 kills. Her 120 total blocks are currently tied for 10th most in all of Division III.

Jenks, a junior setter from Hermosa Beach, Calif., was named to the Honorable Mention All-American team for the second straight season. The back-to-back SCAC Setter-of-the-Year and two-time first-team all-conference selection, Jenks is currently eight in the country with 1,118 total assists and her 10.16 assists per set currently ranks 10th nationally.

Lipacis, a junior outside hitter from Piedmont, Calif., has earned All-American honors for the first time in her career, landing on the HM squad. A 2022 First Team All-SCAC selection, Lipacis currently top-25 in the country in both kills per set (3.91 – 25th) and kills (411 – 20th).  

Fate, a junior middle blocker from New York, NY, is making her debut appearance on the AVCA All-American team. A 2022 All-SCAC Second Team honoree, Fate is tied with Ellis with 120 total blocks to lead the Trinity team. She currently sits third on the team with a .344 hitting percentage sixth with 138 kills. Fate’s 120 total blocks are currently tied for 10th most in all of Division III.
