GARLAND, Texas - The Trinity University women picked up five wins to maintain a lead of nearly 200 points over Colorado College heading into the final day of the 2023 SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships. Trinity leads with 724 points while Colorado College is in second with 525 points. Southwestern sits in third with 463 points.
Trinity earned a victory on the 3-meter board early Friday afternoon where the Tigers continued their dominance in the event. Alexis Radhakrishnan scored 470.55 points to take home the league title. It marked the 18th consecutive win in the 3-meter for the Tigers. Radhakrishnan's teammate Gabi Fulk placed second with a score of 451.15. Neely Burns (pictured) of Trinity became the eighth different Tiger to win the 400-yard IM after she touched the wall first with a time of 4:21.76. Burns broke her own SCAC open meet record of 4:22.01 that she set earlier this season. The time also qualified for an NCAA "B" cut time as well. Erica Peterson of Trinity was second finished in second with a time of 4:36.35 while last year's winner, Molly Spano of Southwestern, was third with a mark of 4:37.38. 400-Yard IM Interview
Colorado College's Kate Brush earned the title in the 100-yard fly after swimming a SCAC championship meet record time of 55.08. She became the ninth swimmer in SCAC championship history to win this event multiple times, as she took home top honors as a first-year in 2020. Emma Hagan of Trinity became the fourth swimmer in league history to win the 200-yard free three consecutive seasons as she touched the wall first with a time of 1:52.60. Josie Gillentine of Trinity recorded her first-career individual SCAC title with a win in the 100-yard breast. She finished with a B cut time of 1:04.37. Sammi Thiele of Austin College became just the second Kangaroo swimmer to win the 100-yard backstroke at the SCAC Championship (Lauren Wheeler - 2015). She tallied a winning time of 56.22 which also set a new SCAC championship and open meet record. It also earned Thiele a B cut time. Trinity's Julie Schwam was second with a time of 57.25 while Elise Samples of Southwestern was third, touching the wall in 58.05. 100-Yard Backstroke Interview
Trinity took home top honors in the night's final event as the Tiger quartet of Schwam, Burns, Myers, and Hagan recorded a winning time of 3:49.23. The time earned them a new SCAC championship and open record as well as a B cut. Colorado College's Alexis Lee, Hewitt, Brush, and Sarah Buchman came in second finishing in 3:54.59.
