Trinity Extends Lead Heading Into Final Day of SCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship

Trinity leads the team standings with 672 points. Colorado College sits in second place with 595 points while Southwestern University rounds out the top three with 522.5 points. 

In diving, Konstantine Partalas of Trinity took top billing on the 1-meter board. Partalas became the fourth diver in SCAC history to win the 1-meter board three consecutive years. His score of 540.00 was the second highest score in SCAC championship history. Partalas just edged out Colorado College's Aidan Richter who scored 534.35 points. In the first individual event of the night, Trinity's John Key became the sixth different Tiger to win the 400-yard IM after touching the wall first with a time of 4:03.80. The win marked his first career individual SCAC title. Finishing second was Andrew Renninger of Southwestern who tallied a time of 4:05.58. Trinity took the home the top-two spots in the 100-yard fly as Michael Kohl was first in 47.85 while teammate Caleb Manifold was second with a time of 48.90. Kohl became the third different Texas Tiger and eighth different SCAC swimmer to repeat as champion in the 100-yard fly. Nathaniel Early's (pictured) win in the 200-yard freestyle was the fourth-straight win for Trinity in the event. Early touched the wall with a winning time of 1:39.24, good enough for a B cut. Trinity's Kendal Southwell earned his second-career win in the 100-yard breast after he finished with a time of 55.76. It marked his fourth individual SCAC championship and was good enough for a B cut time. Collin Ralston of Colorado College was second after recording a time of 56.55 while Jorge Mendiola of Southwestern was third tallying a mark of 57.36. 100-Yard Breaststroke Interview

Matt Lanzara continued Trinity's recent dominance in the 100 back as he secured the Tigers' eighth win in the past nine years. Lanzara touched the wall in 49.99, to win the event for the second consecutive year. Placing second was Caleb Peimann of Colorado College with a time of 51.83. The Trinity Tigers closed out the night with an impressive performance in the 400 medley relay. The quartet of Lanzara, Southwell, Kohl, and Early smashed the previous SCAC record of 3:19.17 when they touched the wall in 3:17.99. The time was a B cut time as well as a SCAC open record. Southwestern's Rodrigue, Mendiola, Kevan Kennedy, and Henry McClure took second with a mark of 3:29.29. Finishing in third was the McMurry University team of Monty Cortez, Caleb Bush, Weston Hamilton, and Harrison Brown posted a mark of 3:42.55. 400-Yard Medley Relay Interview

*Note: The following day, it was discovered an error was made in disqualifying the Colorado College 400 medley relay team and the team and its second place finish was reinstated per Rule 4, Article 6 of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Rules Book. The team scores were changed to reflect a second-place finish by Colorado College, bumping Southwestern to third place, McMurry to fourth place, Ozarks to fifth and Austin College to sixth.
