Colorado College Sweeps Texas Lutheran in SCAC Volleyball Consolation Match

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the opening set, Colorado College jumped out to a 12-4 lead after a kill from Isabella Lipacis. Texas Lutheran was able to cut the lead to 21-14 before the Tigers earned a 25-16 win. Colorado College hit a blistering .358 in the opening set compared to the Bulldogs' .108 clip.
  • Texas Lutheran jumped out to an early 9-4 lead in the beginning of the second set after a service ace from Lexi Morris. A kill from Georgia Mullins and then a ball handling error tied the set at 15-15. Jenny Jenks tallied a service ace to tie the set at 21-21 before the Tigers went up 2-0 with a 25-23 victory. 
  • In set three, Colorado College took an early 9-5 lead on a kill by Isabella Vasquez. After a Bulldogs timeout, Texas Lutheran pulled to within 11-10 before taking a slim 17-13 lead. The Tigers responded by tying the match at 21-21 before Colorado College won the set and the match on back-to-back kills from Paige Day and Mullins to take a 25-22 victory.

NOTABLES

  • This marked the fourth all-time meeting of these two programs in the SCAC tournament and the third time in the consolation match. The win improved Colorado College to 4-0 against Texas Lutheran in SCAC postseason play. 
  • The Tigers went a perfect 3-0 against the Bulldogs, including sweeping the regular season series. 

UP NEXT 
Colorado College, which improved to 29-5 on the season, will await word for a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship. The Tigers currently ranked third in the most recent NCAA Division III Region X rankings. Texas Lutheran sees its season end with a mark of 19-14.
