INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- No. 14 Trinity University Women's Tennis will play in the Richardson, Texas NCAA III Regional of the 2022 National Championship tournament this upcoming weekend on the campus of University of Texas-Dallas.
The Tigers (14-8) returned to the NCAA III national bracket after a one-year hiatus to mark the ninth entry in the last 10 seasons after a ferocious, wire-to-wire victory in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship over No. 20 Southwestern University, 5-0, on the campus of Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas.
All five teams present for the UT-Dallas portion of the bracket are ranked 34th or better by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's latest poll released on May 5. No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (CA) leads the way amongst the five in the poll, followed by the 14th-ranked Tigers, No. 16 University of Redlands (CA), the 29th-ranked host Comets and No. 34 Linfield University (OR).
Trinity brings three singles players and a pair of doubles teams ranked within the West Region into the weekend, led by the duo of senior Megan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and sophomore Cate Cushing (Colleyville, Texas / Colleyville Heritage) along with first-year Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain) in the singles lineup. Flores and Cushing were entries in the 2021 NCAA III Doubles bracket last season and carry a 16-6 record in line-one action into the tournament. Hill has seven victories in singles action this season, and has battled eight players ranked in their respective regions at the time of competition as a Tiger rookie.
While Cushing also ranks 18th in the West in singles, a second first-year, Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene), rounds out the regionally-ranked Tiger quartet at 17th as an individual, 13th in doubles with Kim as her season-long partner.
No. 14 Trinity Women's Tennis will open its NCAA III Regional action Saturday in the tournament's second round against the 16th-ranked Bulldogs at the UTD Tennis Complex.
