GARLAND, Texas – Trinity University took seven of the top eight spots in the 100 fly and earned wins in five of seven events to lengthen its lead to nearly 150 points over Colorado College going into the final day of the 2022 SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships. Trinity leads the team standings with 688 points. Colorado College sits in second place with 546 points while Southwestern University rounds out the top three with 420 points.
In diving, Konstantine Partalas of Trinity took top billing on the 1-meter board. He posted a score of 475.35, and beat out Colorado College's Aidan Richter who scored 455.40. Richter's teammate Mac O'Brien was third with a mark of 388.90. 1-Meter Interview
In the first individual event of the night, Colorado College's Tony Saenz {pictured} took home top billing in the 400 IM after touching the wall in 4:05.32. He finished second in his first individual event last year in the 400 IM as well. Finishing in second was Sam Anderson of Southwestern who clocked a time of 4:05.67 and rounding out the top three was Cole Thumann of Colorado College who finished with a time of 4:09.30. 400-Yard IM Interview
Trinity swept the top three spots in the 100 fly as Michael Kohl won the event with a SCAC record and B cut time of 47.61. Teammate Caleb Manifold also earned a B cut time by finishing in second place with a time of 48.89 while Andrew Crosley was third clocking a 49.99 finish. Daniel Sarman of Trinity took home his second individual win of the championships after he earned the victory in the 200 free with a B cut time of 1:39.91. It marks his third top three finish in the event (2019-2020, 2022). It also marked his sixth all-time individual event win which put him in a tie with DePauw's John Cook for 16th place in league history. Jack Hussin of Colorado College took home second place honors after touching the wall in 1:40.87 while Nathaniel Early of Trinity was third finishing in 1:41.29. 200-Yard Freetyle Interview
Colorado College's Collin Ralston earned league title in the 100 breast after touching the wall first in a time of 55.75. The time also earned Ralston a B cut mark. Ralston became the first Colorado College Tiger to win the event since Robbie Adler won the 100 breast back in 2013. Placing second was Trinity's Kendal Southwell who clocked a 55.85 for a B cut time. Earlier this morning during prelims, Southwell set a new SCAC record with a time of 55.49. Matt Lanzara continued Trinity's recent dominance in the 100 back as he secured the Tigers' seventh win in the past eight years. Lanzara touched the wall in 51.02. The win also was Lanzara's fifth All-SCAC performance. Placing second was Caleb Peimann of Colorado College with a time of 52.17. The Texas Tigers closed out the night with an impressive performance in the 400 medley relay. The quartet of Lanzara, Southwell, Kohl, and Early smashed the previous SCAC record of 3:23.30 when they touched the wall in 3:19.17. The time was also a B cut time. Colorado College's Peimann, Ralston, Thumann, and Step Flanagan took second with a mark of 3:26.00.
