BLANCO, Texas – In an announcement made Tuesday afternoon at the conference championship, Schreiner University's Austin O'Brien was named the 2022 SCAC Men’s Golf Elite 19 award winner.
O'Brien, a senior from Brownsville, Texas, currently holds a 4.000 GPA in Sports Management and earned All-SCAC first team honors after finishing fifth, posting a 54-hole total of 217, at this year's championship event.
O'Brien is the fourth Schreiner student-athlete to earn an SCAC Elite 19 honor since the creation of the award and the second straight golfer from the institution, following the selection of Katelyn Smith last year as the women's honoree.
Established prior to the 2018-19 academic year and meant to recognize the best of the best within each conference sponsored-sport as it relates to both academic and athletic achievement, the SCAC Elite 19 is awarded to the student-athlete who has completed the equivalent of at least 60 credit hours at his or her current institution and has at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA. The student-athlete must also have earned All-SCAC First or Second Team honors in his/her sport for that particular season.
