Jenna Palomarez, Schreiner University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 9)

JENNA PALOMAREZ OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a junior defensive specialist from Pearland, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 21 through Sunday, October 27. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 9)

Palomarez averaged 6.25 digs per set in two wins last week, including 33 in a huge four-set victory over Concordia (Texas) on Tuesday, a win that put the Mountaineers a half game ahead of the Tornados for the eighth and final slot in the SCAC conference tournament. The 33 digs are the third-most in a four set match this season. Additionally, for both matches, Palomarez scored at a 51.5 percent clip on her serve.  

Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior libero Jenna Rodriguez of Trinity was a solid on the defensive side in the team's wins over Randolph-Macon, Concordia, and nationally-ranked Southwestern as she totaled 40 digs and 5.00 digs per set this weekend. Against 14th-ranked Southwestern, Rodriguez recorded 22 digs (6.00 digs per set) and two aces to help lead the Tigers sweep the Pirates and take control of first-place in the SCAC standings. Senior libero Geneva Nedrow of Southwestern put up a season-high thirty-three digs against Randolph-Macon in the Pirates' 3-1 win over the Yellow Jackets on Saturday. Over seven sets played, Nedrow averaged 7.14 digs per set including seventeen digs against Trinity in the following game. With thirty-seven receptions, Nedrow only recorded two errors in the two matches this weekend. Sophomore libero Laynie Kovacs of Austin College had a big performance defensively in the team's only match last week, a 3-0 win against visiting Centenary. Kovacs paced the 'Roos with 16 digs, an average of 5.33 per-set, and had zero reception errors in six attempts. She also had two assists and a service ace in the victory. Sophomore middle blocker Victoria Powell of Texas Lutheran had three blocks (1.00 per set) as the Bulldogs swept Randolph-Macon, 3-0, in the team's only match of the week. Senior middle blocker Addyson Tiffin of McMurry had eight blocks (0.73 per set) and added five digs as the War Hawks went 1-2 on the week. In the team's 3-0 sweep of St. Thomas on Sunday, Tiffin dominated at the net with seven blocks (2.33 per set). Sophomore defensive specialist/libero Meghan Gannon of Colorado College had 38 digs (4.22 per set) in CC's three sweeps over the weekend, including 19 against McMurry. She added four aces, including two versus Centenary. Senior libero/defensive specialist Kara Spice of St. Thomas showcased her defensive prowess this week, delivering 22 digs across six sets for an impressive 3.67 digs per set. She maintained consistency with zero errors in hitting and blocking, while adding three assists and a service ace.
