DEMAURIA MILES OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a first-year guard from Little Elm, Texas has been named the SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, November 22 through Sunday, November 28. (Women's Basketball Weekly Release - Week 4)
Miles was the leading scorer for the Mountaineers last weekend as she led Schreiner to a pair of non-conference victories against Howard Payne, 86-80, on Saturday and Sul Ross State, 77-74, on Sunday. It marked the first time since the 2013-14 season that Schreiner has secured back-to-back victories over two different non-conference foes. Miles poured in a team-high 16 points in both games, shooting 51.7 percent from the field, connecting on 15-of-29 shots. She also added 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.5 assists per game for the Mountaineers.
Junior guard Destini Powell of Centenary averaged 15 points and seven rebounds in a pair of contests last week for the Ladies, including tying a career-high with 26 points in a loss to Ozarks. Sophomore guard Audrey Bayston of Colorado College averaged 14 points and 7.5 rebounds while leading CC to a 1-1 record last week in the 2021 Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving classic. Bayston poured in 22 points on Saturday in a 74-73 loss against No. 16 Hardin-Simmons. The guard shot 8-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-7 from behind the arc while surpassing the 20-point mark for the second time this season. Bayston also matched her season highs of eight rebounds and two assists against the Cowgirls. Sophomore guard Micayla Hamilton of St. Thomas averaged 14.5 points and 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game last week in a pair of losses for the Celts. Senior guard Jayla Santa Maria of Texas Lutheran exploded for her best game of the season scoring 16 points off the bench for the Bulldogs – connecting on 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and grabbing five rebounds .
