IRVING, Texas – Fourth-seeded Schreiner University earned a 2-1 win over fifth-seeded Southwestern University on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the 2022 SCAC Softball Championship. Mountaineer starting pitcher Bri Wodtke broke a scoreless tie with a run-scoring triple to right field in the bottom of the fourth while also earning the win after tossing a complete game. HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kennedy Moody led off the bottom of the fourth with a double to left for Schreiner. Pinch runner Zoie Ramierz then came around to score a batter later on Wodtke's triple, which gave the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead.
- After Southwestern went down in order in the top of the fifth, Schreiner put itself in position to add an insurance run without a hit. Malorie Solis led off the bottom of the fifth with a hit by pitch and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. She then advanced to third on a ground out before scoring on a single by Danielle Pedraza.
- The Mountaineers maintained their 2-0 lead into the top of the seventh. Down to their final out, the Pirates' Kathryn Dull delivered a pinch hit single up the middle. Sav Frieze then smacked a double off the wall in left which scored pinch runner Rylee Rudloff and cut Southwestern's deficit in half at 2-1.

- This was the first meeting since 2018 and the first time since 2015 that Schreiner defeated Southwestern in the SCAC Softball Tournament. The Mountaineers improved to 2-2 versus Southwestern in SCAC postseason play.
