DREW HERMESMEYER OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a graduate student from Goldwaite, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Wednesday, October 18 through Tuesday, October 24. SCAC Golf Release (Week 6)
Hermesmeyer earned medalist honors at the Hardin-Simmons/Abilene Intercollegiate, firing rounds of 73 and 64 for a two-day total of 137 (-5) to finish one shot ahead of his teammate Jake Sitterle as the duo also led the Mountaineers to the team title. It was the first career tournament win for the Incarnate Word transfer.
Hermesmeyer posted eight birdies and a single bogey en route to a final round 64 (-7), which was the low round of the tournament by three shots. His 10 total birdies also led the 52-player field.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Michael Zhang of Dallas set a new program 36-hole record yesterday with a score of 138, beating Emilio Montalvo's previous record of 139 set back in 2019. Zhang followed that up with a 72 in round three to finish tied for second and lead UD to the come-from-behind team win at the Chicken Express Open. The first-year also tied Montalvo's low 54-hole record of 210. Junior Tobey Wills of Texas Lutheran had another impressive tournament, firing a two-day total of 145 (71-74) to finish tied for sixth at the Hardin-Simmons/Abilene Intercollegiate.
