BRI WODTKE OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a senior right-hander from Johnson City, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 28 through Sunday, April 3. SCAC Softball Release - Week 9
Wodtke was outstanding in the circle last weekend for the Mountaineers, posting a perfect 3-0 record to lift Schreiner to a series sweep at Austin College. In the opener, Wodtke tossed a complete game with what was at the time a season-high eight strikeouts. She would bookend the weekend with her second complete game of the series and post a career-high 10 strikeouts to secure her third win of the weekend. In total, Wodtke finished the weekend striking out 22 batters and allowed just two earned runs, while scattering 13 hits in 16.2 innings of work for a 0.84 ERA.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year pitcher Taylor McKenzie of Southwestern posted a 3.20 ERA this week in four appearances, striking out 18 in 19.2 innings of work to just three walks. Junior pitcher Marissa Vasquez of St. Thomas made a pair of appearances last week, earning one win and a save as the Celts swept Southwestern in a key SCAC series. Vasquez finished the week with a 0.88 ERA, striking out four and allowing just one earned run and scattering four hits in eight innings of action. Sophomore right-hander Ashlyn Strother of Texas Lutheran continued her impressive season, picking up two wins for the Bulldogs over Centenary last weekend striking out 18 batters and only allowing two hits and two walks in 11 innings of work - including a complete game shutout on Friday. Senior Cat Patterson of Trinity picked up three road wins in the circle over the weekend, while posting an ERA of 0.82. In three games, the senior only allowed two runs and picked up 10 strikeouts.
