KAMDEN ROSS OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a junior center from Cibolo, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 15 through Sunday, January 21. SCAC Men's Basketball Release (Week 11)

Ross led the Mountaineers men’s basketball team to back-to-back close victories, over Texas Lutheran and Southwestern last weekend, defeating the Bulldogs 90-76 and the Pirates 87-72. Ross put up 24 points on 64.7 percent shooting (11-of-17) from the field, 100 percent from the charity stripe (2-for-2) against the Bulldogs. Followed by a career-high 32 points against the Pirates, connecting on 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the field, and 71.4 percent from the charity stripe. Ross added 15.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game to his weekend stats. In the over TLU Ross posted his second 20-plus point and rebound effort of the season, previously accomplishing the feat back on December 20th against McMurry. Ross is the first SCAC men’s basketball player to post a 20-plus point and rebound effort in a single game since Millsaps’ Edrick Montgomery hit the mark back in 2008.  Additionally, Ross surpassed the career milestone of 1,000 points Saturday night against Southwestern on his 32-point performance. For the week, Ross averaged 28.0 points shooting at a 62.9 percent clip from the field. The Mountaineers sit at third in the SCAC standings at 7-3 in conference play.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:

First-year guard Dean Balo of Trinity lifted the Tigers to a conference sweep last weekend with home victories over Southwestern and Texas Lutheran. Balo came off the bench in both victories, averaging 15.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game for Trinity. He shot 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from the field and 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from the free throw line in the two wins. Balo finished with a team-leading 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting in the overtime win over Texas Lutheran, going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and also pulling down five rebounds. He nailed a shot to tie the game in the final minute of overtime, while also drawing a foul and completing the and-one three-point play to put Trinity in front for good. Senior guard Tristan Dick of Austin College led the ‘Roos in a weekend split, defeating Centenary, 70-59, on Friday and falling St. Thomas, 77-63, on Sunday. Dick had 26 points on 10-of-22 shooting from the field and was 33.3 percent (5-for-15) from beyond the arc in the victory over Centenary. He followed with 18 points on 7-of-15 from the field in the loss against St. Thomas. He added 8.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game last weekend. Sophomore guard Nick Ander-son of St. Thomas and the Celts split a pair of SCAC contests, falling to Dallas, 86-85 on Friday and defeating Austin College, 77-63 on Sunday. Anderson scored 23 points on 9-of-19 shooting from the field and connected on 44 percent (4-for-9) from beyond the arc in the loss against Dallas and then poured in 21 points on 7-of-17 from the field in the win against Austin College. He added 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 0.5 blocks per game last weekend. Sophomore guard Quentin Beverly of Centenary led the Gents to a victory over Dallas with a 30-point scoring performance shooting 62.5 percent (10-for-16) from the field. Beverly went 7-for-13 from beyond the arc and added three assists, two steals and one rebound. Sophomore forward Luke Hatcher of Southwestern led the Pirates scoring 13 in the loss against Trinity and 16 in the loss to Schreiner. Hatcher recorded a double-double in the loss to Schreiner with 11 rebounds and 16 points making 7-of-12 attempts from the field. For the week he averaged 7.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game. Senior guard Xavier Phillips of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs with two double-digit scoring perfor-mances. Phillips had 16 in the loss to Schreiner and 16 with a double-double highlighted by 12 rebounds, despite a close overtime loss to Trinity, 73-76. For the week he averaged 8.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Junior guard Scott Ruegg of Colorado College was electric for the Tigers in the 2-0 weekend trip to California. Against UC Santa Cruz on Thursday, Ruegg scored a career-high 25 points and was 6-of-8 from three-point range. He finished the game shooting 72 percent from the floor, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
