Thomas had a big weekend for the Gents, leading Centenary to a pair of key home SCAC wins, knocking off Dallas, 86-59, on Friday night and then handing Trinity just its second loss of the season, 87-78, on Sunday. The junior averaged 12.5 points per game on 45 percent shooting, including 42.9 percent from beyond the arc. He also averaged 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists per night. In the win over the Crusaders, Thomas poured in 17 points, nearly matching his season-high of 19 in a home exhibition contest against LSU-Shreveport.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman guard Jackson Rennie of Austin College had a breakout weekend for the ‘Roos as they went 1-1 to open SCAC play, averaging 19.5 points while shooting 38.1 percent from three-point range. He also knocked down nearly 78% from the free throw line. Senior guard Chris Smith Jr. of Southwestern led the Pirates to a 58-50 home win last Friday against Colorado College. He scored 17 points on 4-of-11 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Freshman guard Isaac Orozco of Texas Lutheran led the charge for the Bulldogs in their impressive victory over Colorado College last Saturday, pouring in 15 points and dishing out four assists, while adding three steals. Orozco connected on 75 percent of his shot, going 6-of-8 from the field. Sophomore guard Tanner Brown of Trinity led the Tiger men's team with a pair of 20-point performances in its SCAC road split against Austin College and Centenary last weekend. Brown extended his streak to four straight games with 20 or more points after topping that mark just once in his rookie season last spring. He notched 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting in Friday's win over Austin, hitting 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and a perfect 5-of-5 at the foul line. In Sunday's loss to Centenary, Brown recorded his first career double-double with 21 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
