REECE ESSER OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a first-year swimmer from Huntsville, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during meets swam Saturday, September 16 to Saturday, October 7. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 1)
Esser made an immediate impact in her first collegiate meets this past weekend, recording one individual victory, a pair of runner-up finishes, and two more top-five finishes as Centenary opened its season on Friday with a double dual meet against the host University of Ozarks and Rhodes College in Clarksville, Ark. and then competed the next day in Conway, Ark. against the host Warriors and Rhodes again.
Esser picked up her two runner-up finishes on Friday as she swam a time of 57.89 to place second in the 100 free and finished second in the 100 fly (1:02.97). On Saturday at Hendrix, she won the 50 fly in a time of 27.83 and recorded two fourth-place finishes in the 50 back (29.85) and 100 fly (1:03.88). Esser was also a member of the Ladies' team that finishes third in the 200 medley relay (2:03.50) on Friday.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Jessie Wright of University of the Ozarks opened the season with a first place finish in the 200 freestyle (2:07.47) and a second place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:07.02) over Centenary. She also helped the 200 freestyle relay (27.30/1:49.63) to a first place finish to secure the team win over the Ladies. First-year swimmer Isabella Trevino of McMurry won the 100 Breaststroke in a personal best time in the War Hawks' season-opener against UTPB.
