COLLIN PITTS OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a sophomore outfielder from Lufkin, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for games played from Monday, April 1 through Sunday, April 7. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 9
Pitts had a monster weekend at the plate for the Diamond Gents as he hit .615 (8-for-13) in leading Centenary to a three-game SCAC series sweep at home over Southwestern. Pitts had seven RBI, scored three runs, only struck out one time, and had an on-base percentage of .615 while slugging .846. He recorded multi-hit games in all three contests of the series and matched his season and career-high single-game record of four hits as he was 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in a 12-9 victory on Saturday.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore outfielder Paxton Huff of Dallas hit .357 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored, racked up an eye popping seven walks and five stolen bases to post an OBP of .571. Leads the league with 21 stolen bases, currently 16th in OBP. First-year infielder Owen Stevenson of Southwestern was outstanding at the plate last week for the Pirates. Stevenson batted .500, going 8-for-16 with seven RBI, five runs scored, two home runs, and one double. Senior catcher Mason Seay of St. Thomas helped lift the Celts to a key road series sweep at Dallas last weekend. Seay hit .364, going 4-for-11 with five runs scored, five RBI and two home runs. He posted at least one hit in every game and finished with a .467 on-base percentage and a .909 slugging percentage. Senior infielder Aric Vasquez of Texas Lutheran was critical in the Bulldogs SCAC series sweep against Schreiner last weekend, batting .400 at the plate, knocking in four runs and scoring three more. His series was highlighted in game three when Vasquez went 4-for-6 with three RBI, a double and one run scored in an 8-7 win over the Mountaineers. Junior catcher Nicholas Lazzara of Trinity powered TU to a three-game SCAC road weekend series sweep at Austin College, as the 16th ranked Tigers went 4-0 overall this past week. Lazzara batted .714 (10-for-14) for the weekend, collecting three or more hits in all three games. He also scored three runs and drove in six RBI to account for nearly half of the team’s run production against the ‘Roos. Lazzara’s best game came in the first game of Saturday’s DH, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored in the team’s 8-6 win that clinched the series.
