JARON PETREAS OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a sophomore midfielder from Denton, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, March 14th.
Petreas had a superb night for the Gents on Saturday in their home win over Austin College, 4-2, at home last Saturday. Petreas nailed a free kick over a wall of ‘Roos defenders, curling the ball into the top left corner of the net for a 3-2 Centenary lead in the 75th minute. Five minutes later Petreas struck again on another free kick to extend Centenary’s lead to 4-2. The goals were the first for Petreas of the season as he picked up four points and now has three goals in his career. Petreas took five total shots in the game, three of which were on goal, and scored on two of those.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior midfielder Jackson Silverstein of Colorado College set up the tying goal and struck for the game winner in a span of 19 seconds to lift the Tigers to a 2-1 victory at Schreiner last Saturday. Senior midfielder Chase Reynolds of Dallas scored both goals for the Crusaders in a 2-2 tie at St. Thomas on Sunday. Reynolds put the Crusaders up 1-0 and then put in the equalizer while Dallas was down a man for the match in the 80th minute to help force overtime. It was the third career multi-scoring game for Reynold's career and all three of his shots were on goal. Senior defender Tom Hultsch of St. Thomas scored a goal in the Celts 2-2 tie against Dallas last Sunday.
