HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The scoring opened in the visiting half of the third inning when Brady Robinson singled in Noah Koehmstedt to give the Gents a 1-0 lead.
  • Centenary got a pair of runs in the fourth, its first multi-run inning of the tournament after a throwing error led to Zachery Van Gorkom and Gary Hewitt crossed the plate to extend the Gents lead.
  • Ben Bridges blasted his sixth home run of the season in the top half of fifth to give Centenary a 4-0 lead.
  • Trinity finally got on the board in the sixth after leaving seven runners on in the previous five innings when Christian Holloway collected his first hit of the weekend, driving in Jack Vonderhaar and Brian Schaub. MJ Metz collected his fourth RBI of the tournament with a double down the left field line, scoring Michael Montrezza to get the Tigers within one, 4-3.
  • Centenary immediately responded to the Tiger flurry of runs by posting four in the top of the seventh beginning with Robinson knocking in Tyler Welch for his second RBI of the afternoon. Julien DeLeon came through with a pitch hit two RBI double and then Cole Collins closed out the four run seventh for the Gents with a RBI single to left center.
  • Both teams traded runs in the eighth and then combined to score seven in the ninth. Centenary extended its lead to 12-4 after Gary Hewitt doubled to right center scoring Cole Collins. Tyler Welch picked up his fourth hit of the day to score Hewitt and then a balk plated Koehmstedt. Trinity didn’t go away quietly in the bottom of the ninth as Tyler Pettit, Holloway, Ezra Gore were all credited with an RBI and Metz scored on a wild pitch, but Barrett Keene came in to secure the save for the Gents.
