LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the
head coaches in the league, Thavindra Ekanayake of Trinity
University has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference (SCAC) Women’s Tennis Player-of-the-Year. In that
same balloting, Trinity’s Jacob McMindes was voted
Women’s Coach-of-the-Year for the first time in his career.

Ekanayake, a senior from Colombo, Sri Lanka., posted an 8-14 singles record and is currently ranked 17th in the West region in singles play. She is the second consecutive Trinity player to earn the honor and the program’s 10th overall SCAC Player-of-the-Year.
Ekanayake has a 9-14 doubles record this season and helped lead
Trinity to its second straight SCAC championship and
program’s 17th SCAC crown, an 8-1 win over Southwestern, on
April 28.
In his first year as the head women’s tennis coach at
Trinity, McMindes was recognized by his peers as the SCAC
Women’s Tennis Coach-of-the-Year. McMindes guided the Tigers
to a second consecutive SCAC championship with an 8-1 win over
Southwestern in the championship match last month and earned the
league’s automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III
Women’s Tennis Championship.
The Tigers are currently 10-14 on the season and advanced to the NCAA playoffs for the second straight season.
