Trinity's Beauchamp; Hahn selected as SCAC Swimmer and Diver of the Year

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity University teammates Kara Beauchamp and Ruth Hahn were named the league's female Swimmer and Diver-of-the-Year, respectively, based on exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

A first-year swimmer from Sammanish, Wash., Beauchamp was a triple event winner at the 2013 SCAC Championships, including victories in the 200 IM (2:06.83 – a Trinity school record), the 400 IM (4:28.49 – a SCAC Meet and SCAC Open Record) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:22.26 – a Trinity school record). All of her performances were NCAA ‘B’ cuts, and she was an alternate on the NCAA Championships invite list.

The 2013 SCAC Women’s Swimmer-of-the-Meet, Beauchamp's conference meet 400 IM time was faster than the times recorded by several of the NCAA 400 consolation finalists. She is just the second Trinity female student-athlete to earn SCAC Swimmer-of-the-Year honors and the first since Lindsay Weigley earned the distinction in 2006.

Hahn was a double event winner at the 2013 SCAC Championships, sweeping both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards while earning female Diver-of-the-Meet honors for the third consecutive year. Her 1-meter score of 512.15 points set a new SCAC meet and SCAC open record, as did her score on the 3-meter board of 533.90 points.

Hahn advanced to the 2013 NCAA Championships and placed fourth in both the 1-meter and the 3-meter competition, earning her All-America honors for the third consecutive year. The Knoxville, Tenn., native finished her career with six total All-America honors, making her one of the most decorated divers in NCAA history.

In exclusive voting of the league’s head coaches that took place at the 2013 SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships, the staffs of Colorado College (head coach Anne Goodman James) and Trinity University (head coach John Ryan) shared SCAC Women's Staff of the Year honors.
