SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Trinity University Tiger seniors Nykolas McKissic and Mason Lytal have earned recognition as Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Division III Athletes of the Week for their performances against Howard Payne.

Trinity won its season opener 56-7 over HPU this past Saturday, and most of the offense came from the dynamic duo of McKissic and Lytal.

McKissic was 14-17 for 274 yards and six touchdowns passing, while Lytal had five receptions for 124 yards and four scores. Neither player saw action in the fourth quarter of the game.

Lytal, who was also named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week, tied a school record with his four TD receptions.  The record was originally set in 1972 by Bill Hodge, who is a member of Trinity's Athletic Hall of Fame.  Jason Hunt also tied the record in 2001.  The game marked the first 100-yard game of Lytal's career.

McKissic had one of the best individual games for a quarterback in Trinity history.  His QB efficiency rating was 334.2 in the game, which is the second-highest in school history; and his six TD passes were also one shy of the all-time record, set by Roy Hampton in 2001.

Four Trinity players earned Preseason All-America honors from BSN, though none play on offense.  Punter Kyle Trella joined defensive standouts Nick Darling, Phillip Hiner-Leamon, and Von'Darrick Jones were all selected to the various teams.

Trinity will be on the road this weekend, facing off against Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas.  The Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 43-14 in San Antonio last year, but TLU won the last meeting in their home stadium - taking a 42-14 victory.
