Southwestern Tied for Ninth After First Round of NCAA Men's Golf Championship

DESTIN, Fla. - The Southwestern University men's golf team is tied for ninth after the first round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship after the Pirates tallied a team score of 298 (+14) to open the tournament. Official Site | Results 

The Pirates were paced by junior Cameron Button's team-best 70 (-1), four shots ahead of teammates James Charles and Cody Hebert who each shot a 74 (+3).

Also scoring for Southwestern was Jordan Cowart and Michael Gebhardt who each tallied scores of 80 (+9). Button is just two strokes off the first round pace set by Methodist's Jeff Wells, who carded a 69 (-3).

Methodist holds the team lead after the first round. The Monarchs posted a day one total of 290 (+2) and lead Transylvania by two shots. Rounding out the top five are Texas-Tyler (+5) and St. John's (Minn.) and Gustavus Adolphus who are tied for fourth at +8.
