SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Trinity senior baseball player Ryan Lucero has been selected to the 2013 D3Baseball.com Preseason All-America Second Team.
Lucero was also named a Second Team All-American by D3Baseball.com at the end of last season, as well as earning All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and All-West Region honors. He missed the end of the season - including the NCAA Playoffs - due to injury, but is back for his senior season in 2013.
Lucero led Trinity with an 8-0 record and a 1.57 ERA last year, tallying 74 strikeouts in 68.2 innings pitched for the Tigers. He also recorded a pair of shutouts, walked just 15 batters, and held opponents to a batting average if just .172 during the season.
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper ranked the Tigers 10th in their preseason Division III poll, following the team's 37-12 campaign in 2012. Trinity opens the 2013 season with a three-game series at Chapman University, beginning January 31.
The 2013 season will be the 15th under Head Coach Tim Scannell, who has amassed 445 victories and a .702 winning percentage since taking over the program in 1999. Coach Scannell has led Trinity to six SCAC titles and seven NCAA Playoff appearances - including last year's team that reached the NCAA West Region Championship game.
