LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity University repeated as Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference football champions thanks to a 35-24 win over visiting Millsaps College. The Tigers become the first team to win back-to-back SCAC titles since DePauw University did so in 2009 & 2010.

Austin College put together a strong defensive
effort but was unable to get much going offensively on Saturday,
falling 17-0 against Centre College on Homecoming Weekend in
Sherman. The ‘Roos fell behind 7-0 midway through the first
quarter, and the Colonels added a touchdown late in the second
quarter to take a 14-0 halftime lead. Neither team was able to put
points on the board in the third, and after stopping the Colonels
on first and goal from the four Centre would have to settle for a
field goal to make it 17-0 with just over nine minutes to play.
However, after starting to put something together on offense, the
‘Roos had a pass picked off to end any hope of a comeback.
Nathan Packard had 10 tackles for the ‘Roos and Scott Loy
added nine including a sack for an 11 yard loss. Noah Jesko
completed 13-of-18 passes for 97 yards and Madison Ross totaled 76
yards, 27 on the ground and 49 on five receptions.
Trinity clinched its second consecutive SCAC Championship
with a 35-24 victory over Millsaps College on Saturday afternoon.
With just Trinity and Austin College left as football-playing
schools in the conference, the league title is determined by games
against Southern Athletic Association members (formerly in the
SCAC), as well as the Austin-Trinity game. The Tigers rushed for
282 yards in the game, and also piled up 470 yards of total
offense. Quarterback Mason Blaschke threw for 188 and ran for 221
yards in the game, passing for two touchdowns, and running in two
more. The only score he didn’t account for came on a
quarterback sneak from the one-yard line. After getting stopped
initially, Blaschke turned and handed the ball to running back
Travis Williams, who slipped in for the score. Blaschke’s 221
yards rushing is the eighth-most in school history for a single
game, but is the new Trinity record for rushing yards by a
quarterback. He is the first Tiger player since 2009 to rush for
over 200 yards in a game, and his 409 yards of total offense rank
12th all-time in school history.
