LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.
– After exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), the league office today announced its 2013 Men's Outdoor Track & Field postseason awards.

Trinity University's Sal Perdomo was selected as SCAC Men's Track Athlete-of-the-Year while his teammate Justin Campbell was voted SCAC Men's Field Athlete-of-the-Year. Colorado College's Gabe O'Friel and Trinity's Taylor Piske split the vote and share SCAC Men's Track & Field Newcomer-of-the-Year honors.

Perdomo, a senior from Irving, Texas, took first place in the 3000m steeplechase and the 5,000m run at the 2013 SCAC Championships. His steeplechase time of 9:11.08 took second in his heat at the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays, is a school record, and currently ranks him 23rd in NCAA Division III. He also ran a personal-best in the 1,500 and 5,000 meter run. He was a three-time Athlete-of-the-Week during the 2013 season.

After a knee surgery that sidelined him last season, Campbell had a breakout year in 2013. He won the shot put, hammer throw, and the discus at the 2013 SCAC championships, and threw a personal best in both the hammer and the discus. Campbell's throw of 52.43 meters in the discus was good for a school record as well as the ninth-best toss in Division III this season - qualifying him for the NCAA Championship meet. A senior from Victoria, Texas, Campbell placed 13th (of 20 competitors) at the 2013 national championships with a throw of 49.14 meters.

O'Friel, a freshman from Asheville, N.C., was the top finishing among first-year athletes in both the long jump and triple jump at the 2013 SCAC championships. He finished with the third-longest triple and long jumps (12.72m / 6.30m, respectvely) for the season in the SCAC.

Piske, a freshman from Richardson, Texas, was the top freshman in the conference for both the 5,000m and 10,000m run. He placed fourth and second in the 5,000m and 10,000m run, respectively, at the 2013 SCAC championships, and his times in those events rank him in the top 10 all-time at Trinity.

In balloting that was conducted earlier, the coaching staff at Trinity University - led by head coach Marcus Whitehead - was selected Men's Track & Field Staff-of-the-Year.
