Southwestern In Seventh Place After Second Round of NCAA Men's Golf Championship

DESTIN, Fla. - The Southwestern University men's golf team is in seventh place after round two of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship. The Pirates carded a team score of 299 (+11) in the second round today. Official Site | Results 

The Pirates were once again paced by junior Cameron Button. Button shot a 67 (-5) and currently leads the field with a two-day total of -6. Schreiner's Cheyne Kendall also shot a 67 (-5) and is three strokes back of Button in second place.

Button birdied three of his first six holes on his way to a 3-under par 33 on the front-nine. He then added two more birdies on the back-nine to finish his second round. In yesterday's first round, he actually tallied six total birdies but also committed five bogeys.

Button's teammate James Charles shot a 73 (+1) and is at +4 for the tournament. Also scoring for Southwestern was Cody Hebert who shot a 78 (+6) and Jordan Cowart who tallied an 81 (+9).

Transylvania and Texas-Tyler are tied for the lead after round two as the Pioneers and Patriots are both +7 (579) for the tournament. Rounding out the top five was Methodist (+13), Illinois Wesleyan (+17) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (+23).

Southwestern is just two strokes back of fifth place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps as the Pirates are +25 after two days of competition.
