Men's Lacrosse Recap (Week 7) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southwestern University earned two wins last week as the Pirates beat SCAC foe Centenary (24-0) and non-conference opponent Huntingdon (16-6). The wins evened the Pirates' record on the season to 7-7 overall and 3-1 in SCAC play.

AROUND THE SCAC

Centenary (0-6, 0-3 SCAC) was on the wrong end of a 24-0 decision to Southwestern. Colton Cowley led the offensive effort with five shots, three of which were on goal. The Gents return to action April 13 when Centenary hosts the Dallas Crusaders.

Colorado College
extended its winning streak to four games with a 27-2 victory over Dallas on Sunday. Senior defender James Iglehart recorded career highs of five caused turnovers and five ground balls as the Tigers held an opponent to fewer than five goals for the sixth time this season. He also figured prominently in the success of CC's man-down unit, which did not give up a goal in eight opportunities. At the offensive end, Iglehart posted the first multiple-goal game of his career to help the Tigers post their largest offensive output a single game since a 28-0 victory over Oglethorpe University on April 8, 2011. Colorado College also received an impressive performance from sophomore midfielder Sayre Thomas, who won all 11 of his faceoffs and grabbed a game-high 10 ground balls. He also set career highs with three goals, two assists and five points. Freshman midfielder Ian Pelto, who also finished with five points, was one of four players who finished with three tallies. Junior midfielder Michael Idell and freshman attacker Robert Prior also found the net three times. In all, fourteen Tigers scored at least one a goal while 18 recorded one or more points. Freshman Chase Murphy earned the victory despite not having to make a save during the first period. Senior midfielder Charles Curtis stopped a pair of shots while playing the final 3:40 in goal. He also had two goals and an assist. CC won 27 of 33 faceoffs and finished with a 77-13 advantage in total shots and a 60-21 edge in ground balls. Colorado College plays host to Southwestern on next Sunday.

Dallas
(1-6, 1-3 SCAC) fell 27-2 to Colorado College in their sole game of the week. A pair of freshman midfielders -- Matt Cyr and Alex Ziolkowski -- scored for the Crusaders. Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Murphy tallied 25 saves and four ground balls in defeat. Head coach Jeff Guy's squad will return to action on Saturday versus Centenary College of Louisiana at 7 p.m. in Shreveport, La.

Southwestern
took to the road for two games this weekend and won both 24-0 over Centenary and 16-6 over Huntingdon. The attack for Southwestern vs Centenary put up a whopping 29 points with Carter Cowan leading the way with 6 goals 4 assists , Jamie Long with 7 Goals, Austin Fox with 2 Goals and 5 Assists, Michael Villa with 3 assist, and Nathan Balke 1 goal and 1 assist. Jeremy Tufnell junior midfielder was solid with 4 goals on 4 shots. The faceoff game for the Pirates was impressive going 21-26 lead by Jake Phillips 11-14 and Connor Smith 6-7.In the Pirates 16-6 win vs Huntingdon College the attack stayed strong with Cowan and Long both having 4 goals and 1 assist, and Villa adding a goal and an assists. The midfield played strong with an excellent riding game helping to cause some of the 27 turnovers by Huntingdon. Jackson Timian sophomore midfielder added 2 goals and junior midfielder Tyler downing added 3 goals. Southwestern’s next game is Sunday at Colorado College.
