Football Recap (Week 7) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity University knocked off 16th-ranked Birmingham-Southern College, 30-21 on the road on Saturday. Austin College snapped a three game losing streak by blocking a potential game-winning field goal in a 24-23 win over visiting Wayland Baptist.

Austin College blocked a field goal as time expired to preserve a 24-23 victory over visiting Wayland Baptist University on Saturday for the team’s second win of the season. Sophomore defensive back Colter Headrick came in to block the 44 yard attempt to give Austin College the win. The ‘Roos rushed for 286 yards as a team, led by 92 yards from Sean Sweeney, 90 from Madison Ross and 70 from Broc Boyd, and managed to hold on for the victory after WBU came back from a 21-8 third quarter deficit to threaten late. The biggest sequence of the game came late in the fourth quarter as the ‘Roos turned away the Pioneers after WBU had gotten a first and goal from the two yard line. Nathan Packard made a career high 16 tackles to lead the ‘Roo defense and James Roh had five stops, including 3.0 for loss and 2.0 sacks and had two more quarterback hurries in the game. The ‘Roos have a bye this week before hosting Centre College for Homecoming on October 27.


Trinity
earned a 30-21 road win over nationally-ranked Birmingham-Southern on Saturday, improving the team’s record to 4-2 this season. The Tigers improved to 6-0 in the series against the Panthers, with the last two meetings being decided by less than 10 points. Trinity scored two touchdowns in both the second and fourth quarters to earn the victory, which was sealed by a Mason Blaschke one-yard touchdown with 3:08 to play. Blaschke accounted for three scores on the day, and helped lead the offense to 385 yards. The Tiger defense forced four turnovers and recorded three sacks in the win. This week, the Tigers will be back on the road again as they will face off against Centre College. Trinity holds a 15-8 record against the Colonels, dating back to the 1989 season. The Tigers have won nine of the last 11 meetings, though the teams have split the last four games.  Last year, Trinity won 20-14 in San Antonio.
