SHREVEPORT, La. - The 2013 season isn’t the only campaign on which the Centenary baseball team is focused. Last weekend, the squad volunteered to help with Townsquare Media’s K945 Practice Safe Text Event at the Villaggio in Bossier City.

This free annual event educates about the dangers of texting and driving as well as internet safety. Not only did Practice Safe Text Event provide great entertainment, it also educated young adults regarding the dangers of texting and driving.

  • Car crashes kill an average of 11 teens each day Texting while driving is like driving after drinking 4 beers.
  • Texting and driving makes you 23 times more likely to be involved in a wreck Texting and driving causes you to take your eyes off the road for an average of 5 seconds. At 55mph, that’s like driving the length of a football field blind.
  • Texting and driving is a national issue that affects us locally. Texting and driving is at the root of an alarming increase in accidents and fatalities.
  • In the United States, automobile accidents are the number one killer of teens; and texting and driving makes you 23 times more likely to be involved in a crash.

Participants signed a pledge to not text and drive. Bossier Parish Sheriff’s office, Marshals for Kids, Bossier Police Department, and Bossier Fire Department were also on site.
