ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southwestern University Head
Athletic Trainer Glenn Schwab was announced as the Division III
Head Athletics Trainer-of-the-Year Thursday evening at
the 63rd Annual National Athletic Training Association (NATA)
Convention. Schwab has been NATA Board Certified since 1987 and has
been at Southwestern University for ten years. He has seen much
change in the Athletic Department and guided the Athletic Training
department through this growth, strengthening the program each step
of the way.
"It takes much more than words or a statement to represent the person and Athletic Trainer that Glenn Schwab is,” shared Assistant Athletic Trainer and nominator Abbey Petrecca. “He believes in the important role college Athletic Trainers play in shaping the lives of college athletes and preparing them for their future, whether it involves sports related activities or not. Not only does he care for the athletes, but the entire campus community and beyond.”
The National Athletics’ Trainer-of-the-Year award began in 2005 and recognizes one individual for exceptional performance as a head athletic trainer in each of the collegiate divisions. Award recipients are actively involved in their community or campus, professional organizations and promotion of the profession.
Schwab moved to Texas in 2001 after living in Memphis and working as the head athletic trainer at then fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member Rhodes College from 1993-2001. Prior to Rhodes he served as an assistant athletic trainer at the Virginia Military Institute from 1989-1993.
“While he is probably the busiest person I have ever met or worked with, he never ceases to find time to assist just one more person,” continues Petrecca. “He never turns down the opportunity to help and represents a type of servantry that every athletic trainer wishes to achieve. He is the first to arrive and the last to leave practically every day of the week. I am truly privileged to have the opportunity to work under and learn from someone with such dedication and humility to his profession, his university, and his community."
Schwab will continue to expertly guide the Southwestern Athletic Training department as their demands grow to cover 20 sports with the first seasons of football and women’s lacrosse in the 2013-14 academic year.
