LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity University finished its road portion of the schedule with a convincing 48-7 win at Sewanee on Saturday. Austin College, also playing on the road, nearly upset Millsaps but came up just short in a 36-34 contest.

Austin College team trailed 36-21 in the fourth
quarter before scoring 13 straight, but the team's comeback bid
fell short in a 36-34 loss at Millsaps on Saturday. The 'Roos and
Majors took a 14-14 tie into the half, with Noah Jesko scoring from
a yard out and finding Madison Ross for a 28 yard touchdown for the
two Austin College scores. In the second half the 'Roos got a 12
yard touchdown run from Sean Sweeney to tie things at 21, but
Millsaps would score the next 15 to take a 36-21 lead early in the
fourth quarter. Jesko found PJ Fuller for a 35 yard touchdown with
9:27 left to make it 36-27, and after the 'Roos got the ball back
Austin Rainer scored from two yards out with 3:35 remaining. The
'Roos would get one more chance with 30 seconds left, and Jesko's
36 yard pass to Nathan Orbach got the team across midfield but the
'Roos would run out of time before getting into field goal range.
Jesko completed 14-of-21 passes for 199 yards and Sweeney rushed 13
times for 78 yards as Austin College piled up 209 yards on the
ground and 423 yards overall. Fuller caught six passes for 105
yards and Nathan Packard led the defense with eight tackles,
including 1.0 for loss.
Trinity finished off its road schedule with a convincing
48-7 win over Sewanee: University of the South on Saturday
afternoon. The Tigers had an outstanding effort from offense,
defense, and special teams in the game. Trinity had two punt
returns for touchdowns, an average of over 50 yards per punt, and
two field goals over 40 yards from the special teams unit.
Offensively, the Tigers had 210 yards rushing for the second
straight game, and totaled 373 yards in the game. On defense,
Trinity forced three turnovers, and held Sewanee to just 271 yards
and 4-14 on third down. Garrett Biel cranked out field goals
of 44 and 45 yards in the game, giving him six field goals in his
career of at least 44 yards – more than any other Tiger
kicker in school history. Patrick Granchelli finished with 80 yards
rushing to lead the Tigers in the game, passing 1,900 rushing yards
in his career. That total puts Granchelli in the top 10 in
Trinity history for rushing. Trinity will finish off the regular
season this weekend by hosting Austin College. The Tigers have won
15 straight meetings against the ‘Roos, and the teams will
meet for the 77th time this Saturday. Trinity holds a 41-29-6
record against Austin, dating back to the 1904 season. Prior
to Trinity’s current win streak in the series, Austin won 12
consecutive meetings.
