SCAC Names McConnell and Ruyle Golf Coaches-Of-The-Year

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Craig McConnell and Dan Ruyle were named men's and women's golf Coaches-of-the-Year.

Craig McConnell of Trinity University was honored as men's Coach-of-the-Year. At the 2013 conference championships, Trinity's men's golf team won its first SCAC title since the 2005 season, defeating Southwestern University 3-2 in the championship match. In his fourth season at the helm of the Trinity program, the COTY award is the first for McConnell and just the second for the Trinity's men's golf program (Charlie Brock was SCAC Men's Golf Coach-of-the-Year in 1994).

Like McConnell, Dan Ruyle of Southwestern University guided his squad to a conference title and was rewarded with his fourth SCAC women's Coach-of-the-Year honor and first since winning the award three consecutive years from 2007 to 2009. The Pirates defeated Trinity by four strokes at the 2013 championships, the second-closest finish in the history of the event. The championship was the first for the Southwestern women's golf program since 2009 and the sixth overall, which is just one off DePauw University's SCAC-best seven women's team titles.
