Colorado College Pair Named To USILA All-America Team

PERRY, N.Y. - Colorado College's Steve Rijo and Chase Murphy were named to the 2013 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America teams, the organization announced. Rijo and Murphy were the only two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference players named tot he team. Complete USILA All-America Team

Rijo, a senior midfielder, was a USILA honorable mention All-America selection and was the 2013 SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year. He finished tied for second in the SCAC in goals scored (29), tied for thrid in assists (17) and was third in points (46) in leading the Tigers to the program's third SCAC title in four years (a perfect 5-0 conference mark during the regular season), a 13-5 record and the school's second appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.

Rijo had a career-high seven goals in CC's 12-4 victory over Southwestern on April 16 – a victory that clinched the program's fourth consecutive regular-season championship and a 24-0 record all-time in conference games. A three-time All-SCAC performer, Rijo finished his career with 108 career points (67 goals and 41 assists).

Murphy, a first-year goalkeeper and USILA honorable mention All-America selection, led the league in goals against average (6.42) – the third-lowest single-season total in conference history. He was first in saves (157) and his save percentage of .625 is the highest for a single season in SCAC history.

In the Tigers' 24-2 victory over Southwestern in the SCAC championship game, Murphy stopped eight of 10 shots on goal before exiting 3:13 into the fourth quarter. In the four-year history of the award, he is the first freshman to be selected as SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year.
