BEN UTZ OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a junior midfielder from Atlanta, Ga., has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Monday, September 5th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 1)
Utz burst onto the scene in the opening weekend of the 2022 season, leading Dallas to a perfect 2-0 start for the second-straight year and third time since 2016. In the opener, Utz played a factor in both goals in the Crusaders’ 2-1 win over LeTourneau, assisting on the first before scoring the game-winning marker in the 67th minute with the game tied at 1-1. He followed up that performance with the opening goal in Dallas’ 2-1 win on the road at East Texas Baptist. Utz is currently tied for the SCAC lead in both goals (2) and points (5) .
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior forward Cesar Escobar of Austin College had a strong opening to the 2022 campaign, registering a goal in each of the ‘Roos’ first two fixtures, including the insurance marker in a2-0 win over LeTourneau. First year forward Aaron Myers of Centenary had a stellar collegiate debut for the Gents, scoring a pair of goals in an impressive 5-0 victory over Dallas Christian. Myers became just the 12th Centenary player in the DIII era (2011-present) to score two goals in a single contest. The win was the first season opening victory for Centenary since the 2019 season. Senior midfielder Dylan Blough of Schreiner recorded two shots, including one shot on target, in the season opener against Hendrix. Junior forward Ian Alvarez of St. Thomas opened his year with a bang, scoring a goal in each of the Celts first two games, including the game-winner in a 3-1 win over Concordia in the opener. Alvarez also tacked on an assist against Concordia for a total of five points on the week. Senior midfielder Fraser Burns of Trinity played a big role in the Tigers having success last weekend. He assisted on both goals in an impressive 2-0 win over Claremont-M-S in Trinity’s opener and then rang home his first goal of the season in a hard fought 3-3 draw against Rowan.
