McMurry's Leatherman Named AFCA All-America

WACO, Texas – McMurry University senior defensive back Timothy Leatherman was named to the 2024 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III All-America Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Leatherman secured First Team All-American honors after helping lead the War Hawks to a 7-3 overall record, including a 7-1 mark in SCAC play and a share of the conference crown.

The Ingram, Texas native was named First Team All-SCAC after finished tied for second in the league with four interceptions, including three returned for a touchdown. He finished the year with five pass break-ups, registered 51 tackles, including five tackles for loss and a quarterback sack and was twice named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Leatherman is the fourth McMurry football player to win the award, joining Randy Roemisch (1974), Ricky Nolly (1980) and Ryan Williams (2015). He is the first SCAC athlete to earn First Team AFCA All-American honors since former member Centre’s Ben Hume earned recognition in 2011. Leatherman is the 169th All-American selection in SCAC history.
