Around the SCAC - October 2nd

SUWANEE, Ga. -- SCAC weekly releases for the week spanning from Monday, September 23rd to Tuesday, October 1st.

Cross Country - Week 5 
Five SCAC Cross Country programs were in action last week, highlighted on the men’s side by St. Thomas (TX) taking home sixth out of 25 squads at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival and Dallas finishing 12th out of 15 at the Nicholls State XC Invitational. On the women’s side, Ozarks scored a top-10 finish in ninth out of 23 teams at the Chile Pepper meet and Dallas also placed top-10, finishing 10th at the Nicholls State XC invite. SCAC Cross Country action continues this week with nine programs taking the starting line, highlighted by Concordia (TX), Dallas, McMurry, Schreiner, Southwestern, Texas Lutheran and Trinity all competing at the DBU Old Glory Gallop. MEN'S SCHEDULE - WOMEN'S SCHEDULE 

Men's Runner of the Week - Alexander Bozhilov, University of Dallas
Alexander Bozhilov of University of Dallas, a first-year from Sofia, Bulgaria, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28.  Full Release  

Women's Runner of the Week - Chloe Weathers, University of the Ozarks
Chloe Weathers of University of the Ozarks, a junior from Clarksville, Ark., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28.  Full Release  


Football - Week 4
McMurry (3-1, 3-0) remained the lone unbeaten team in SCAC play following the third weekend of league action. The War Hawks knocked off Austin College (0-4, 0-2), 34-9, to notch their third-straight victory. In other SCAC competition, Texas Lutheran (3-1, 2-1) shutout Lyon (1-3, 0-2), 49-0. It marked the first shutout for the Bulldogs since 2019. SCAC play continues this week as Austin College takes on Texas Lutheran in Seguin and Centenary (1-3, 1-1) hosts Lyon. Offensive Player of the Week - Jess Hoel, McMurry University
Jess Hoel of McMurry University, a sophomore quarterback from Abernathy, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, September 28. It is the third consecutive week he has earned the honor. Full Release

Defensive Player of the Week - Kane Strohman, McMurry University

Golf - Week 3
Four women’s programs and two men’s teams were in action last week as the fall portion of the SCAC golf schedule continued. On the women’s side, Southwestern paced four league schools at the UMHB/Legends Cup, finishing sixth out of nine schools, while the Trinity men finished second out of 10 teams at the Redlands/Bulldog Fall Invitational. Fall golf continues this week as Dalas, St. Thomas (TX), Texas Lutheran and Trinity are all scheduled to compete at the Trinity/Alamo City Classic. MEN'S SCHEDULE - WOMEN'S SCHEDULE

Men's Golfer of the Week - Giorgio Gianoulis, Trinity University

Men's Soccer - Week 5
The first week of conference play in SCAC Men’s Soccer is in the books as Trinity (6-0-2, 1-0-0), Colorado College (6-1-2, 1-0-0), Centenary (5-2-1, 1-0-0), Concordia (TX) (4-1-3, 1-0-0), Austin College (3-6-1, 1-0-0), Southwestern (5-0-2, 0-0-1) and Texas Lutheran (4-0-2, 0-0-1) all remained unbeaten in league action. For Trinity, this marks the 11th-straight year the Tigers have opened SCAC play with a win, while it marks the third-straight and second-straight season of opening league play with a win for Austin College and Colorado College respectively. In fact, the CC Tigers are riding a streak of 18-straight SCAC fixtures dating back to October of 2021 since their last conference loss. Centenary is 1-0-0 in league play for the first time since the COVID-19 shortened 2020-21 season and Concordia (TX) is perfect through one conference match in their first year as a member of the SCAC. Conference competition continues this week with six fixtures scheduled on Friday and six more on Sunday. STANDINGS - SCHEDULE - STATSISTICS

Co-Offensive Player of the Week - Pierce Wear, Austin College

Co-Defensive Player of the Week - Sebastian Lutin, Centenary College

Women's Soccer - Week 5
The final preparations for conference action took place last week as the SCAC portion of the schedule is set to get underway this week in Women’s Soccer. Five SCAC squads head into league play after accumulating a .500 or better record against non-conference foes. SCAC action gets continues this Friday as Texas Lutheran (4-3-1) travels to Dallas (2-4-0), Centenary (2-4-2, 1-0-0) hosts St. Thomas (4-1-2), Schreiner (1-5-1) is at Concordia (TX) (2-5-1), McMurry (4-4-0) heads to San Antonio to face Trinity (4-1-2) and Austin College (6-0-2) hosts Southwestern (2-4-1). Noelani Ajel of Texas Lutheran University, a first year defender from Cibolo, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 23rd through Sunday, September 29th. Full Release 


Volleyball - Week 5
Conference play continued last week in SCAC Volleyball as Austin College (10-6, 3-0), Colorado College (7-6, 3-0) and Southwestern (11-1, 2-0) all remain unbeaten in league play. The ‘Roos are 3-0 in SCAC play for the first time since joining the league prior to the 2006 season, while the CC Tigers are perfect through three matches for the first time since the shortened 2020-21 COVID-19 season and Southwestern is unbeaten through two league games for the first time since 2022. The CC Tigers have yet to drop a set in SCAC action, while Austin College and Southwestern have dropped just one set in league play.
