Austin College dominated play but had to settle
for a 0-0 double overtime tie against non-conference opponent the
University of Dallas on Saturday, bringing the team’s record
this season to 8-6-1 overall. The ’Roos held a 33-2 shot
advantage in the match, but were unable to find the back of the net
with several shots hitting the crossbar. In addition to their huge
edge in the shots department, the ’Roos also took 19 corner
kicks in the match but were unable to turn any into a score.

fourth shutout of the season in just five appearances. This weekend
the ’Roos will close out the home portion of their schedule
when they host Hendrix College on Friday and Rhodes College on
Saturday.
Birmingham-Southern made a swing through the Lone
Star State this weekend and came home with a bitter taste from a
pair of shut-outs. Friday’s match with Trinity was, and
Sunday’s match at Southwestern was 1-0. Both matches were
evenly- and hard-fought, but in neither could the Panthers get
their offense going. It’s simple, if you can’t score,
you can’t win. The women will try to get back on the right
side of the stat sheet this weekend as they host Sewanee and
Oglethorpe at BSC Soccer Park. Friday night’s match with the
Tigers is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and Sunday’s match with the
Petrels at 2:00 p.m.
Centre earned their first-ever win against DePauw
Saturday night at home. The 1-0 win was made even more special by
the fact that the game was played on Centre’s homecoming.

University (Tuesday, Oct. 28th) and Maryville College (Sunday, Nov.
2nd).
DePauw dropped to 5-8-2 overall and 3-4 in the

totaled four saves in recording the shutout.

over Central Baptist College as senior forwards Jessica Rood and
Devin Smith each scored one goal and one assist, while first year
forward Maggie Schrier dished out two assists on Friday afternoon
at Warrior Field. Hendrix’s improves to 6-7 overall. Hendrix
struck early when Rood put her first collegiate goal past the
keeper in the second minute off Schrier’s first assist of the
night. The Warriors would score two more times before the break
when senior forward Michelle Story scored her fifth goal of the
season off Rood’s assist and sophomore midfielder Lydia Nash
found the back of the net off Schier’s final assist of the
game. Central Baptist managed one goal in the first half and made
it a 3-2 contest when defender Lauren George scored just 14 seconds
into the final period. Hendrix would answer late and put the game
away when first year Lindsey Abel collected her first career-goal
in the 74th minute and Smith scored her second goal of 2008 in the
85th minute of action. The Warriors outshot the Mustangs 32-3 in
the tilt.

lone goal of the match for Millsaps off a Jessica Harris assist. On
Sunday at Trinity, Harris scored the opening goal just 1:36 into
the match to give the Majors a 1-0 halftime lead before the Tigers

Mississippi.
No. 17 Rhodes was back in action this weekend
traveling to #11 Washington University (MO) and also Maryville
University (MO). Rhodes would split the weekend losing to Wash U
1-0 and defeating Maryville 4-1. The Lynx gave up an early goal to
Wash U and was unable to make up the deficit. The Lynx had several
good goal scoring opportunities. The Wash U. goalkeeper made a
great save on a shot from Freshman Ashley Ladd, and Sophomore Alice
Hilgart had a header from a corner cleared from the line by a
defender. The Lynx would bounce back and defeat Maryville 4-1.
Despite conceding the first goal of the game, the Lynx would score
4 unanswered goals. Melanie Sharry scored two while Zoe Clark and

game-winner over the Eagles. Freshman goalie Virginia Zakas played
one half in goal Thursday and then played both halves on Saturday
in the big Emory win. Sewanee is 8-4-1 and will play
Birmingham-Southern and Millsaps on the road next weekend before
hosting Dallas and Austin College the following weekend to wrap up
the 2008 season.
Southwestern went one and one over the weekend,
dropping a hard-fought game to Millsaps on Friday and rebounding
with a win over Birmingham-Southern. Against the Majors, the
Pirates found themselves playing catch-up after an eighth minute
shot was deflected into the goal. While coming out ahead in both
shots (27-10) and corner kicks (14-2), the team was unable to crack
the Millsaps defense and lost 0-1. On Sunday, after a scoreless
first half, the situation was reversed when Jillian Curran scored
off a goalkeeper fumble in the 48th minute of play. The team played
a defensive strategy to finish out the half, holding the Panthers
at bay to win 1-0.
Trinity swept its final home weekend of play in
the regular season, defeating both Birmingham-Southern and
Millsaps. The Tigers beat Birmingham-Southern with a 2-0 shutout on
Friday, breaking a scoreless tie in the 80th minute, and then
adding an insurance goal in the final minute of action. Trinity
then came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to beat Millsaps 3-1 on
Sunday afternoon. A goal with just three minutes remaining sealed
the victory for the Tigers. Jordan Azar had a goal and two assists
over the weekend, while Brianna Young had one goal and one assist
in the two games. Senior Chelsea Wilson scored in the final regular
season home game of her career on Sunday, knocking in the
game-winner in the 79th minute. Trinity will travel to Georgetown,
Texas this weekend to take on Southwestern University. The Tigers
are 13-1 all-time against Southwestern – including last
year’s 4-0 win in San Antonio. The only loss in the series
came during the 2005 season.
