DALLAS, Texas - Hendrix College senior CF Daniel Ward has been named the NCAA Division III National Hitter of the Week for games played during the week of April 6-12, as voted on by a panel of members from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Ward was also featured on this weeks episode of Inside SCAC Baseball Volume 6. He spoke with the SCAC's Assistant Commissioner for Communications, Jeff DeBaldo, about the opportunity to play for a spot in this year's post season tournament, his career at Hendrix and what the Warriors have to do to win the crucial two games they need against Southwestern this weekend.

Ward was a combined 10-for-13 (.769 average) while posting a 1.462 slugging percentage and a .778 on-base percentage (2.240 OPS). He drove in nine runs, scored seven runs, walked three times and did not strike out once. Ward also tagged one double and one triple on the week before clobbering a pair of two-run homers in a remarkable senior-day performance on Saturday against Austin College.

He reached base all five times to the plate in a 17-3 win over Central Baptist College with a triple, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch, scoring three runs, then doubled and drove in three in the second game of the twinbill. After going 3-for-4 in a loss to Austin on April 10. Ward went 4-for-5 with a pair of two-run homers, four runs scored and five RBIs in a 12-7 senior day win on April 11. He was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week on Monday, April 13.

This is the first time in the Warriors’ program history for a player to receive such an honor. Ward is capping off a standout four-year career by breaking records and ranking in the top of the league. He is now tied for second all-time in the SCAC with 59 career doubles and is just six hits away from joining the coveted 200 career hits club. He currently ranks in the top five of the conference in slugging percentage (3rd - .776), on-base percentage (5th - .513), hits (T5th - 51), runs batted in (T5th - 38), doubles (1st - 15), triples (T4th - 2), home runs (T3rd - 9), total bases (4th - 97) and hit by pitch (T5th - 10).
