SPRINGFIELD, Ky. - Sophomore Chris Morris
(Maysville, Ky.) won for the fifth time this fall and the Centre
College golf team won its third team title in seven events winning
the Wittenberg Fall Invitational by two strokes Tuesday, Oct. 7 at
the Windy Noll Country Club in Springfield, Ky.
The Colonels shot a two-round score of 598 (304-294) to defeat Cedarville University by two strokes (600). The host, Wittenberg University, rounded out the top three with a team score of 603.
Morris, who shot a 64 three days prior to win the Old Bridge Invitational, shot a two-round score of 141 (70-71) to win by one stroke over Danny Sorgini and Nick Trego of Ohio Dominican. Morris was the only player out of the 87 competitors to finish under par after two rounds on the 6,834-yard par 71 course.
Senior Tyler Griffith (Marengo, Ind.) also placed in the top 10, tying for 10th place with a 149 (78-71). Rounding out the top five for Centre was juniors Chris Conkright (Owensboro, Ky.), Tyler Current (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Lyndon Jones (Taswell, Ky.).
Conkright finished in 18th place with a 153 (78-75). Current
tied for 22nd with a 155 (78-77) and Jones tied for 26th place with
a 156 (76-80).
