SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive voting among the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's baseball coaches, Trinity University was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the 2009 SCAC baseball championship. The Tigers are coming off a 2008 season in which they went 35-15 and advanced to the NCAA Division III West Regional final.
Coach Tim Scannell's Tigers received nine of the 11 coaches'
first-place votes followed by Millsaps College with the remaining
two first-place votes.
Advancing to the NCAA Division III West Regional championship,
Trinity posted its eighth 30-win season since 1999. The Tigers are
among teams receiving votes in the 2009 D3baseball.com
preseason poll.
As for the division races, Rhodes College received three of the six
first-place votes and just edged out DePauw University, who
received the other three first place votes, as the team to beat in
the East.
In the West Trinity garnered three of the five first-place votes
and is favored to win the division. Millsaps (1) and Southwestern
University (1) also tallied first-place votes in the Western
Division.
