SUWANEE Ga. - The Rhodes College Lynx who took a week off from action on the pitch still made some noise on the national scene climbing into the top ten in the nation at #10. Southwestern University who stepped out of conference this weekend defeated Hardin-Simmons (Texas) University and entered in the South Region Rankings at #10 for the first time this season. The Southern Colligate Athletic Conference now has three regionally ranked teams again for the first time since September of this year.
It was a big weekend for the Austin College
women’s soccer team as they picked up a pair of Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference victories over two strong opponents
in Centre College and DePauw University. On Friday the ’Roos
got a 1-0 victory over Centre when Helen Heres scored off of a free
kick in the 72nd minute, and Sunday Heres assisted on Shelley
Casey’s game-winning goal in the 51st minute in another 1-0
victory. For the weekend Austin College goalkeeper Kaitlin Elledge
stopped all nine shots she faced, and so far this season only four
goals in five SCAC games and just eight goals overall. With the two
wins, the ’Roos improve to 8-6 on the season as they head
into the home stretch of the year. This week the team will step out
of conference play to take on the University of Dallas as a part of
homecoming before closing out the season with four more SCAC
games.
Birmingham-Southern posted a couple of wins this
week. Monday night the Panthers defeated the visiting
Auburn-Montgomery Senators 5-0 at BSC Soccer Park. On Thursday they
traveled to Maryville College and got the road-win 3-2. Alicia
Plotky came-up big in Monday night’s game, scoring two goals
in the shut-out against AUM. It was the freshman’s first
two-goal match of her career. Another Panther had two goals in the
thrilling 3-2 victory at Maryville on Thursday. The Panthers found
the net early, Serena Murphy scored in the 13th-minute to give BSC
the early lead. Seven minutes later Lydia Rice connected again,
this time on a corner kick. The second half was a physical war of
attrition. Both teams went back-and-forth attacking and defending
with neither able to break through and put any points on the board.
Approximately half way through the period the Scots got the goal
they needed. Jessica Peterson got the ball past Amber Hernandez in
the 74th-minute to tie the match at two goals apiece. The game
wasn’t decided until Alicia Plotky was fouled inside the box
in with just three minutes remaining. The resulting penalty kick
was sent flying into the back of the net by Lydia Rice for the
game-winner and her second of the match. It was the first two-goal
game for the Junior. BSC will be on the road for a pair of SCAC
games this weekend. Friday, the Panthers will travel to San Antonio
for a 6:00 p.m. match at Trinity. On Sunday they will square-off
with Southwestern at 2:00 p.m. from Georgetown.

Friday and defeating the University of Dallas on Saturday. The
Colonels take on DePauw at home on Saturday.
DePauw split their weekend matches to move to
5-7-2 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Tigers opened the
weekend with a 3-0 win at Dallas as Stephanie Patton put the Tigers
on the board just 2:26 into the contest before Sarah MacGregor made
it 2-0 at 36:29. DePauw's third goal came on an own goal at 75:14.
The Tigers outshot Dallas 21-0 and held a 6-1 advantage in corners.

Tigers. Austin scored an early second-half goal and held on for a
1-0 win over the Tigers. Both teams totaled 16 shots with DePauw
holding a 4-2 edge in corners. DePauw's Lauren Palfrey finished
with nine saves.
Hendrix College senior forward Michelle Story
tapped in the Warriors’ game-winning goal off an assist from
sophomore midfielder Lydia Nash with just 0:46 remaining in the
second overtime against NCAA Division II Christian Brothers
University on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Field. Hendrix’s
upset victory brings them to 5-7 overall. The 4-3 victory snaps a
three-game losing streak and will give the Warriors momentum as
they host Central Baptist College on Friday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m.
Story’s game-winner came off Nash’s free kick on the
left flank from about 25 yards out. The goal marked Story’s
team-high fourth of the season. First year goalkeeper Allison
Mosley had an outstanding game with nine total saves and just one
goal against her. Mosley denied four open shots in overtime and six
in the second half. The Buccaneers struck first just 1:29 into
regulation off a rebound in front of the goal, before taking the
second score of the game in the 11th minute and a quick 2-0 lead.
Hendrix’s Story answered with her first goal of the affair
off a breakaway provided by first year defender Hannah McGrew.
Christian Brothers’ Staci Long would score her team’s
final goal of the game in the 33rd minute, while less than a minute
later, Hendrix benefited from an ‘own goal’ making it
3-2 before the break. The Warriors fought back from their one-goal
deficit at the half by shutting down the Buccaneer’s offense
for the final three periods. Hendrix first year Sarah
Ghidina’s first collegiate goal turned out to be the
equalizer with 77:42 showing on the scoreboard. Nash was credited
with her first assist of the day. The Warriors were paced by Story
with four shots on-goal, while Ghidina, senior forward Jessica Rood
and first year defender Kat Marsh recorded one shot on-goal apiece.
Hendrix took advantage of the shots they had as Christian Brothers
outshot the Warriors 27-11 and 14-8 on-goal.
Millsaps improved to 10-4 in a 5-0 win at
Crichton College on Friday night. Five goals in a span of 16
minutes midway through the second half broke open a scoreless tie
and sent the Majors to their second 10-win season in school history
and first since 1987. In a match totally dominated by Millsaps, it
was only a matter of time before the goals started to pour in.
Outshooting the opposition 32-0 on the night, the Majors finally
capitalized off Bobbi Jones' goal in the 66th minute to take a 1-0
lead that kick started five unanswered. Senior Hayley Barber
followed minutes later with her second goal of the year and Leslie
Robichaux scored minutes after that to make it 3-0 Millsaps in a
span of 4:28. Freshman Anne Waldrop capped the scoring for
Millsaps, recording her first multi-goal game with back-to-back
goals in 2:29 past Comets keeper Megan Hawkins. Senior GK Elizabeth
Sooby touched the ball just three times all night to earn her third
shutout of the year and 10th win, while Hawkins was hit with the
loss after saving 13 shots in the second half in relief of Sarah
Harrison. Millsaps will face its toughest road test to date next
weekend, traveling to Texas for a three-day road swing at
Southwestern University (4-1 SCAC) and Trinity University (4-1
SCAC).
Oglethorpe lost their only match of the week last
Wednesday to a strong Emory University side, 6-0. Despite playing
with only 13 field players due to a rash of injuries, head coach
Alan Woods has been pleased with the team’s recent
performances and will look for continued progress a week from
Friday when they face Millsaps in Jackson.
No. 10 Rhodes was idle this past week. The Lynx
return to the pitch this weekend when they travel to St. Louis to
face Washington University.
Sewanee took the week off and will return to
action this Thursday as the Tigers host Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.)
University on the Mountain.
Southwestern brought home their seventh win in a
row on Friday, taking down ASC leaders Hardin-Simmons 1-0 and
breaking the Cowgirls' 32-game regular season home winning streak
in the process. While Hardin-Simmons had an edge on overall shots,
the Pirates made more of their opportunities, finally capitalizing
on a defensive misplay when junior A.J. Andreola scored off an Amy
Douglas assist in the 70th minute of play.
Trinity lost a 5-1 decision to two-time defending
NCAA Champion and fifth-ranked Wheaton (IL) College on Saturday
night – the team’s only game of the past week. After
Wheaton opened the scoring early in the game, but Trinity answered
with a goal less than two minutes later by Brianna Young. Wheaton
led 3-1 at the half, and added two more goals in the second period.

era on Monday night. The Tigers will then continue SCAC play on the
weekend, facing off against Millsaps and Birmingham-Southern.

meeting between the two schools. The Tigers have recorded four
consecutive shutouts against Millsaps – including last
year’s 3-0 victory in Jackson, Mississippi.
