MOLINE, Ill. - Playing in an elimination game against 4th-seeded UW-Whitewater on Day 3 of the NCAA Central Regional from Swanson/Brunner Field, the 12th-ranked and 2nd-seeded Millsaps College Majors were defeated 10-4 to close their cinderella season at 34-10 overall.
Out-hit for a fourth time in four days, the Majors took a 1-0
lead into the fifth inning before the Warhawk bats strung together
six unanswered runs over the fifth and sixth frames to take total
control with a 6-1 cushion.
Millsaps snuck a run across in the sixth off an RBI-double from
Todd Barnthouse, only to see UW-Whitewater respond with two in the
seventh to stretch the lead out to 8-2.
The Majors cut it to 8-4 in the bottom of the frame with a two-RBI
single from Josh Ordeneaux with two outs but couldn't do any more
damage.
UW-Whitewater (29-18) added insult to injury with a pair of runs in
the eighth to close the books, getting a two-out, RBI-single to
make the final score 10-4.
Millsaps ends a magical 2009 season at 34-10 overall, its third
most wins in school history. The Majors also set a new school
record with their 87th hit-by-pitch, as Jules Roussel was plunked
in the ninth.
